PRC Elects New President – Joyce Law

In April 1997, the CSRA Interfaith Alliance formed as a local trailblazing concept in Augusta with Dr. Hossam E. Fadel as President, Ellie Parker as Vice-President, Joyce Law as Secretary-Treasurer, and Frank Dennison serving on the Phone Tree Committee. Later in the year, Anita J. Bell, and Benjamin Hasan joined to expand the Steering Committee. Other early members are: Richard Arnold, Aladien Fadel, Ann Hamilton, Betty and Don Hostetler, Marlene Johnson, Wendes Jones, Reverend Daniel King, Julia P.R. Knox, William and Barbara Stenstron. 

The momentum of interfaith dialogue and events has grown over the past 28 years since the formation and dissolution of the CSRA Interfaith Alliance. Three (3) of these early pioneers, Hossam Fadel, Julia “Pat” Knox-Hudson, and Joyce Law, and remain on the forefront of significant participation.

Reared and educated in Augusta, GA, LTC Joyce G.D. Law, Retired, U.S. Army completed 34 years of total military service predominantly in logistics, communication, equal opportunity, and humanitarian assistance throughout the Continental United States and the Pacific Region. She is well-recognized for leadership and volunteer contributions in a wide array of community circles, notably historic preservation. She holds the unique honor as an inaugural recipient of the Department of Defense Humanitarian Service Award; and, the East Territory recipient of the 2008 SGI-USA (Buddhist) Humanitarian Award for exceptional community service.  Imbued with a broad range of work and academic backgrounds and high awards in her fields, she has previously served several terms as Officer-at-Large in the Progressive Religious Coalition of Augusta; and, is currently a Member Care Advisor for the SGI-USA Augusta Chapter. 

In March 2025, the historic Tabernacle Baptist Church honored her as one of five (5) Women of Influence in their Women Empowerment Series. She and husband Douglas, who serves as the long-standing SGI-Augusta Chapter Men’s Division Leader, are proud parents of two (2) sons and three (3) grandchildren. Joyce can also be found concentrating in the library, gardening and note taking in the cemetery, feeding backyard chickens, photographing skylines, stashing fabric, and mountain trail hiking. Most recently, in December 2024, she received the Augusta-Richmond County Parks and Recreation Volunteer of the Year Award.
