1. How have you become aware of the PRC of Augusta and its influence in the community?

2. In a few sentences, please explain how you understand the word “progressive” and how this understanding informs your perspective on societal concerns.

3. What strengths and skill set would allow you to impact the PRC of Augusta positively?

4. The PRC of Augusta respects “freedom of conscience” in its members who are devotees of different religious/spiritual commitments who may differ at times on certain concerns before the body. As a member of the PRC of Augusta, do you covenant to practice respectful dialogue in all matters and yield to the consensus of the body on voted upon issues?

5. Having read the bylaws of the PRC of Augusta, are there any expectations you have conflict with and believe you could not abide by?

PRC of Augusta Statement of Principles:

The members of the Progressive Religious Coalition of Augusta form a supportive and affirming progressive community for the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA).

The PRC of Augusta is grounded in authentic relationships and open communication. It celebrates our individual spiritual paths, and values progressive influence both from faith traditions and from other liberating, truth-bearing sources.

We affirm these values: love, justice, creativity, kindness, respect, charity, awe and rational thought. These values inform our belief that all people have equal worth and dignity without regard to gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or class. These values inform our support for the right of each person to decide for him/herself about reproductive choices; whom to love or marry; the balance between family and gainful employment; and eligibility for leadership roles in spiritual and religious organizations.

We believe that our moral vision must strive for the ideal of maximum freedom combined with responsibility for each individual while strengthening the bonds of community. We exist to impact society through our interaction with “common good” concerns for the CSRA such as a healthy, safe environment; justice tempered with compassion; equal access to quality education and health care; freedom of conscience, and support of the separation of church and state.

We value healthy spirituality in adding to the fullness of life as well as in the formation of character and personality of individuals. We believe that religious diversity has played a vital role in creating a pluralistic society, enriching an understanding of our own faith traditions and broadening our vision of the profound mystery at the heart of life.

In signing this agreement, I pledge to joyfully, responsibly, and creatively take part in the business and fellowship of the PRC of Augusta. I will be constrained by the bylaws of the body and endeavor to respect all members regardless of their spiritual holdings, ethnicity, gender, orientation, and values. My differences with PRC of Augusta discussions and decisions will be registered with proper decorum and not perpetuated into divisive remonstration.
